  • The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (TOCOPG)
    conducted a public consultation on its procurement policy which is characterised
    by assurance of sustainability.
  • In response to the public consultation, PEFC International presented a
    suggestion that wood and paper to be used for construction of buildings
    and facilities and printed matters related to 2020 Tokyo Olympic/Paralympic
    Games should be certified to forest certification system such as PEFC or
    SGEC, which assures sustainability of forest-based materials and products.
  • PEFC Asia Promotions and SGEC also presented a similar suggestion jointly.
  • The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (TOCOPG)
  • Participation as an observer in the 4th Procurement Working Group meeting
    of TOCOPG’s Sustainability Division.
  • We strongly appeald to the WG members that certified wood should be used
    as certified woo should best suit to the sustainability policy
    established by TOCOPG.

  • SGEC Forest Certification Forum
    Honored by the presence of Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamada and
    Director General of Forestry Agency of Japan, Mr. Satoshi Imai, SGEC Forest Certification
    Forum was held at Yayoi Kodo Ichijyo Hall of University of Tokyo. The role
    of forest certification and PEFC-endorsed SGEC were explained and importance of using
    PEFC/SGEC-certified wood and paper was appealed to almost 300 attendees with the expected use of PEFC/SGEC-certified
    wood and paper for 2020 Tokyo Games.
  • PEFC Project Cerification Seminar
    With the presence of Mr. Alun Watkins, Executive Director of PEFC UK as the guest lecturer,
    PEFC Project Certification Seminar was held. Almost 60 people attended representing major construction companies, buidling materials manufactureres and traders,
    architects and prefectural and municipal governments. Using 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games as the model case, the importance of using certified wood and paper materials
    and the acquisition of PEFC Project Certification was featured.
  • Under the sponsorship of Japan Kenzai Co., Ltd., 36th Japan Kenzai Fair was held.
    PEFC gave a presentation as one of the seminar programs on the brief history of the environmentally-friendly Olympic and Paralympic Games
    and the importance of realising the use of certified wood and paper for 2020 Tokyo-related constructions and buildings.
  • In Koriyama, Fukushima Prefecture, a seminar was held titled “Toward the Use of Certified Forest Materials for
    International Even” under under the sposorship of Wood and Plywood Museum and a support from Forestry Agency of Japan.
    The main purpose of the seminar was to assure the importance of promoting sustainable forest management in Fukushima and appeal the use of Fukushima made
    certified forest materials for constructions and printed matters related to 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.
    Many people gathered from local relative industries and administative organisations to cooperate each other for this purpose.
